Dina font with Croatian characters

Dina is a monospace bitmap font, primarily aimed at programmers. Because originally it doesn’t support Croatian characters, here is little upgrade of this font from me. If there are any ideas/suggestions on Croatian characters feal free to contact me. It’s in bdf format.

Restore GRUB Legacy

This method requires any live GNU/Linux distribution that has ‘GRUB Legacy’ for default bootloader. So after booting live distribution from CD/DVD/USB, and opening command line, here are 4 steps that will restore your GRUB:

Start grub using this command (the ‘no-floppy’ option will speed up GRUB starting time):
sudo grub --no-floppy
Now if boot partition, that you want to restore GRUB from (it contains ”/boot/grub/stage1′ file), is on the second partition, you’ll type:
root (hd0,1)
Setup GRUB on MBR:
setup (hd0)


 And quit: 
quit

View disk usage

Here are 3 linux tools that I usualy use for analysing disk space. 

To see size and usage of any mounted partition, df command can be used:

df -h

To see disk usage of particular directory, du command can be used:

du -sh directory_name

In graphical enviroment good graphical disk analyser is baobab.

Ofcourse, there are other options for first two commands, that can be read in their man pages. And, there are many other graphical disk analysers.

         


Change date and time

To change date and time one can use date, or hwclock command ,  but of course you must have root privileges to do that.



Example:

date -s "2009-12-01 01:16:00"



After that, you should also remove /var/lib/hwclock/adjtime file.

Ctrl+Alt+Backspace & Xorg

This shortcut for zapping X11 server is now disabled by default. But it can be enabled.  Here are two solutions for this:

 Add this to .xinitrc file:
setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp &

Xorg.conf man page says that it can be done by adding this code to xorg.conf file. But this doesn’t work for me:
Section "ServerFlags"
        Option "DontZap" "false"
